Chapter 32 - Chief Goes Out Into the World

"Hey, boy, do you know anything else?" (Dwan)

"Hmm? Do you mean other carpentry tools?" (Gail)

"Well, yeah, I guess." (Dwan)

    I thought for a moment.

"Bossman, can anyone cut straight boards out of a log like you?" (Gail)

"No, not many people can." (Miguel)

"Can anyone do that if lines are drawn on it?" (Gail)

"Well, many people can cut along the lines at least." (Miguel)

"How do you draw those lines?" (Gail)

"It's impossible to draw lines long enough to cut boards out of a long log." (Miguel)

" I see.... I think I know a tool for drawing such long, straight lines." (Gail)

"What!?" (Miguel)

"But it's really just a simple tool that doesn't need Pops' skills to make." (Gail)

"Tell me about it." (Dwan)

"Pops, it doesn't even use a blade." (Gail)

"Just tell me quickly!" (Dwan)

"It's a tool like this...." (Gail)

I explained how ink line reel (sumitsubo) worked.

"What else?" (Dwan)

Next I explained about level, ruler, hand drill, and so on.

"Hmm, could you bring Arnold here next time? No, tell him that I will be visiting your house. Three days from now at night." (Dwan)

"You will come to our house? Got it. Should I also tell my mother?" (Gail)

"Yeah, please tell her, too." (Dwan)

"Okay, I will let them know." (Gail)

With that, we left Dwan’s store.

"Hey, Dan. Dad hasn't seen Pops for a long time, has he?" (Gail)

"Probably." (Dan)

"Is he perhaps angry?" (Gail)

"No, I think he just wants to talk about Young Master." (Dan)

"Is this about the money?" (Gail)

"That's a part of it, I guess." (Dan)

"I see.... well, I don't really care about the money." (Gail)

"Young Master has no interest in money, huh." (Dan)

"No, I'd love to make a ton of money out of something I make myself." (Gail)

We arrived home as we were talking about that.

At dinner, I informed Arnold and Aina that Dwan would be coming over.

"You haven't shown your face at his place yet, have you? He might be upset and decided to come over himself." (Aina)

"Maybe so...." (Arnold)

    Arnold smiled awkwardly.

"Speaking of which, what did you go to Dwan's place for?" (Arnold)

"Today, when I was taking a stroll around town, I became acquainted with a carpenter. That carpenter turned out to be Pops' little brother, so we showed him to his place afterwards." (Gail)

John and Bent were there, so I skipped the part about planer.

"Dwan has a little brother? That's a news to me." (Arnold)

"He just met him for the first time in a long time today." (Gail)

"Is that so? I wonder if his brother is still in this town." (Arnold)

"He's a master carpenter. He probably won't go anywhere as long as there's construction work in this town." (Gail)

"In that case, he won't leave anytime soon. Maybe I'll have him renovate our house next time." (Arnold)

Then, three days later, Dwan came over and immediately started an argument.

"Hey, Arnold, what is this all about? You have never told me about your third son.... Tch, forget it. Look at this instead!" (Dwan)

Dwan put a planer on the desk.

"Hmm, what's this, Dwan? Are you here to sell me this tool?" (Arnold)

"I wouldn't do something so stingy. Do you know what is this?" (Dwan)

Next Dwan put an ink line reel, a ruler, a level, and a hand drill on the desk one after another.

"Oh, you've brought a lot stuff. But what are these for?" (Arnold)

"I guess you really have no idea. How about you, Aina?" (Dwan)

    Aina shook her head.

"These are something the boy came up with, and I made them myself." (Dwan)

“The boy? You mean Gail?" (Aina)

"That's right." (Dwan)

"What do you mean by Gail came up with these?" (Arnold)

"That's why I came here to ask about it!" (Dwan)

I was called into the reception room.

"Gail, why did you not say anything to us?" (Arnold)

"What are you talking about?" (Gail)

"This is what I'm talking about." (Arnold)

The tools that Dwan brought were laid out on the table.

"Pops, have you finished them already? Oh, this level is perfect! I want one for myself, too." (Gail)

"Is it perfect? I see. Hahaha." (Dwan)

Dwan burst out laughing after I praised his work.

"You guys, it's not the time to be excited by yourselves." (Aina)

"That's right, Gail. Why didn't you say anything about this?" (Arnold)

"It's because John and Bent were there. Or it would be more accurate to say that it was because Bent was there." (Gail)

"So you don't want Bent to hear it...." (Aina)

"I wasn't trying to hide it, but I thought it would be better if Bent didn't know because it would just make him worry about unnecessary things." (Gail)

"I understand your point, but Dan didn't say anything either." (Arnold)

"Because Pops said he would be visiting our house, Dan probably thought it would be best not to meddle in this matter." (Gail)

"I get it. So, how did you come up with the idea to make these tools?" (Arnold)

I can't tell them about my previous life, so let's use Megumi as an excuse.

"Umm, can I tell Pops about the revelation?" (Gail)

"Is this related to these tools?" (Arnold)

    Arnold's face clouded over.

"What do you mean by revelation?" (Dwan)

"Dear, I think we should tell Dwan about the revelation. I'm sure there will be more to come." (Aina)

"Yeah, if it’s Dwan, I’m sure it will be fine to tell him." (Arnold)

"There seems to be some complicated circumstances." (Dwan)

And so Arnold told Dwan about the revelation and my magic talent.

"It's hard to believe, but I felt something special about the boy. I have no choice but to believe it." (Dwan)

    Dwan nodded, closing his eyes.

"So, Gail, are these tools from the revelation?" (Arnold)

"Umm, rather than from the revelation, I think it was more like an inspiration that something like this would be useful to the world." (Gail)

It's convenient to blame everything on the revelation.

"Boy, will you continue to have these inspirations?" (Dwan)

"I don't know, but if I have another idea about useful tools, I'd be happy if you could make them for me." (Gail)

"Hey, Arnold, what are you going to do? You can count on me to make the tools, but it will eventually become too big to hide." (Dwan)

"Hmm, what do you think, Aina?" (Arnold)

"I'd like to hide it if I could, but it's something that will be useful to the world, right?" (Aina)

"In that case, I will be your cover. I'll start a company under my name and spread the boy's inventions from there. Of course, I'll give the boy a share of the profits." (Dwan)

"Are you sure, Dwan?" (Aina)

"Yeah, I'm sure. It's fun to make things the boy comes up with." (Dwan)

"I can't imagine Dwan being interested in anything other than weapons...." (Arnold)

"Hahahaha! It's rewarding to be the first to make something that no one has ever made before." (Dwan)

"I'm glad you say that." (Aina)

"In return, I'll decide the selling price. The boy's share will be 10% of the profits. Is that okay with you?" (Dwan)

"I will leave it to you. Still, it's going to be a fair amount of money." (Arnold)

"Yeah, the boy is going to make a lot of money. Don't steal it, okay?" (Dwan)

    Dwan said jokingly.

"I would never steal my son's money!" (Arnold)

    Arnold laughed in response.

"Then, it's settled. The company name will be Chief Company." (Dwan)

"Ch-Chief Company?" (Gail)

Why that name?

"This is a company that will lead the changes to this world, so it's called Chief Company." (Dwan)

Is it just a coincidence?

"Chief Company, huh. It's a good name." (Arnold)

Is it a good name?

"Chief Company? It's certainly a fitting name." (Aina)

Even Aina....

"Alright, I'll register the company and the tools tomorrow. Feel free to come and tell me any ideas you have in mind. I'll make anything for you." (Dwan)

    Thus Chief/Gail Company was established.
